Protocase Tech Tip Video
Extruded Consolet enclosures combines a consolet enclosure with aluminum extrusions in order to create the ideal enclosure for mounting control or instrument devices on a 30- or 60-degree surface while easily mounting printed circuit board within the enclosure.

This type of enclosure is made up of several parts:

  • 1U aluminum extrusion in the front
  • 2U aluminum extrusion in the rear
  • Top, bottom and side panels

Protocase can build your custom extruded consolet enclosures in 2-3 days, with no minimum order. We offer a wide variety of custom finishes, components and accessories in order to achieve a professional, high-quality end product.

Additional Information:

Materials:

Our stocked extrusions are 6063 Aluminum.

The top and bottom panels specifically must be 0.064" (1.626mm) 5052 aluminum in order to fit the aluminum extrusion's slots.

The side panels are typically also 0.064" (1.626mm) 5052 aluminum, but they can be any material or thickness that we stock.

Front & Rear Panel Options:

Choose from one of our six standard faceplate styles - or design your own:

Profiles:
Type A

Contoured sides with top and bottom flanges

Type B

Straight sides with top and bottom flanges

Type C

Profiled sides with flush top and bottom

Type D

Straight sides with contoured top and bottom

Type D

Contoured sides with straight top and bottom

You can mix the panel types to have different combinations, as well as make other customizations to the panels. For instance, you can bend out the bottom flanges to use as mounting flanges for securing the enclosure in position.

Fasteners:

We use #6 thread-forming screws for attaching the front and rear panels.

Self-clinching fasteners cannot be inserted into an aluminum extrusion unless a particular area on the extrusion is CNC machined first in order to insert the fasteners.

Fasteners can be installed in any of the enclosure's panels, as long as the fastener doesn't interfere with the extrusion once the enclosure is assembled.

Finishes:

The aluminum extrusions for the extruded consolet’s front and rear come in a bare aluminum mill finish. Powdercoat and/or chem filmed can be applied to the extrusion as a secondary finish. We do not recommend applying anodizing to aluminum extrusions.

The top, bottom and side panels in an extruded aluminum enclosure can have many of our finishes applied (either for all four panels, or part-by-part):

Graphics & Permanent Marking:

The top, bottom and side panels in an extruded consolet enclosure can have graphics and other marking applied:

FAQs:

What thickness printed circuit board (PCB) can the aluminum extrusion accommodate?

Our stocked aluminum extrusion’s slots measure 0.07” (1.78mm) wide, so as long as the PCB is thinner than this dimension, it should fit.

What is the IP/NEMA rating for extruded consolet enclosures?

This enclosure is not IP/NEMA rated.
